Wash & Care

| |
Thank you for your purchase! We are pleased that you have chosen to purchase our products and encourage you to read and follow these Wash/Care guidelines. We recommend that all our products be pre-washed prior to first use. Soak printed products in a salt-water solution - 15ml (1tbsp) salt in a basin of cold water prior to washing in order to set dyes.
CLOTH DIAPERS, LINERS, INSERTS, DOUBLERS & SOAKERS
* Pre-wash before using. This will soften them and wash away any possible manufacturing residues. It will take approx. 4 - 6 washings for the inserts/soakers to reach maximum absorbency, this is due to the natural oils associated with them.
* DO NOT USE BLEACH, WHITENERS, BRIGHTENERS or FABRIC SOFTENERS, as these chemicals can cause them to break down &/or cause residue buildup to occur.
* PLEASE FOLLOW ALL COMPANY RECOMMENDED WASH/CARE INSTRUCTIONS, otherwise you may void warrantees. The Following are guidelines:
* We have found that detergents with bleach & some pure soap products or strong detergent products - liquid or powder (e.g Tide, Sunlight, Ivory Snow, or Cheer) may reduce the life expectancy of cloth products.
We recommend using a biodegradable, phosphate & chlorine free laundry detergent.
Cloth Diaper Friendly Laundry Detergents
The below list are all Enzyme, Brightener, Dye, Fragrance & Softener Free (HE - means front loader compatible):
* "Maggies Soap Nuts" - HE = Great news you can purchase Maggies Soap Nuts here!!!
* "Allens Naturally" Powdered & Liquid Detergent
* "Charlie's Soap" - HE = Coming soon!
* "Country Save" Liquid & Powdered Detergent
* Care in drying your inserts/soakers will add to their life. We recommend hanging them to dry. A dryer can also be used on medium heat setting for 15-25 min., but please keep in mind that this may shorten the life of the product(s).
* Should staining occur, soak inserts/soakers in a solution of 15-30 ml (1-2 tbsp.) of the same recommended laundry detergent as above and place in a small pail filled with extremely hot water. Soak till the solution cools or until the next load of diaper inserts/soakers are washed. You can also try hanging them in the sun after laundering to naturally bleach stains away. For extra tough stains mix above into a paste using warm water, apply paste to the stain. Then launder as usual. Please note that orange colored `first foods` and medication will affect the staining on the liners/soakers. As natural and artificial coloring causes these stains, the stains will lessen in intensity with washing. Using a phosphate & chlorine free detergent during these times will decrease the possibility of staining.
How to Strip Diapers
Using diaper rash ointments, barrier creams & other diaper rash products can cause a build up on the diaper/inserts/soakers. If this happens you'll need to Strip the diapers.
1. Add a few squirts of dish soap to your washer (it doesn't really matter what kind of dish soap, as you'll probably only be stripping the diapers 2 - 3 times a year).
2. Wash all your diapers by themselves in hot water with the dish soap.
3. If the problem is bad, repeat step 2.
4. Run a cold water rinse. A 1/4 cup of Baking Soda can be added during the rinse cycle to help release any left over detergent.
5. If you still see bubbles in your rinse water, run another cold water rinse.
6. Hang to dry & then fluff in dryer with no dryer sheets for the last 5 mins to help re-seal the PUL material.
* For Smelly Diapers: Follow the wash & strip directions above substituting Step #4 (Baking Soda) with a 1/4 cup of vinegar during the rince cycle.

WAHMIES BAMBOO NURSING & MAMA PADS
The bamboo pads come to you straight from the Loom and it is essential that they are laundered before use, as they have not been subjected to any wet processes such as scouring, bleaching or dyeing after weaving. Therefore careful handling needs to be taken with your new Bamboo pads to prevent snagging of the loops (broken finger nails, rings, zippers, etc.) prior to its first laundering, when the slight amount of shrinkage that takes place binds the loops more firmly into the cloth, making them ready for service. Please follow these simple steps:
1. Place bamboo pads in a washing bag prior to its first laundering. 2. Launder Pads with lukewarm water on delicate wash with like colors (DO NOT EVER USE BLEACH) and thoroughly rinse in cold water. 3. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry on low to medium heat setting. We do not recommend using fabric softeners, whiteners or brighteners as they tend to block the micro-gaps in the fibers leading to reduced absorbency.

Wooden Toys & Wooden Teething Toys Care Information
Wood is organic and continues to "live" even after it has been made into a toy or household product, no matter the coating applied to it. It will expand and contract with moisture and temperature. Improper exposure to the elements can irreparably damage wood. Water that is absorbed deep into its fibers and then dries too rapidly is likely to create cracks and warps.
If you desire to clean a wooden item:
- DO wipe it with warm soapy water and allow to air dry.
- DO NOT soak it in water or put in the dishwater.
- DO NOT use or place wooden objects in the microwave.
Items, like our Schoolhouse Natural toys, can be coated in a salad bowl finish, or other natural oil. If recoating any wood product, for child or table, be sure the product you choose is safe for the purpose. Do not use a vegetable oil that may turn rancid.
Through typical play, even hardwood toys will get banged and scratched. Consider this a cherished record of your child's play. It is better to put some wear and tear on a solid wooden toy than to spend time being passively entertained by electronic gadgets. Please be sure to occasionally inspect your child's toys for broken parts or other problems. It is handy to have a piece of sandpaper available to smooth out roughed up dents and dings, especially, on uncolored wood. Keep in mind that under our guarantee, we will repair or replace any item returned to us that no longer functions properly.
Often we find that the more "natural" a finish is, the more susceptible it can be to spotting by common liquids. It is a trade-off, with the more bullet-proof finishes on the market tending to have more questionable chemicals in them.
